About the application
I am a Greek resident but I received my high school diploma abroad. Can I apply for Stavros Niarchos Foundation Artist Fellowship Program?
Yes, as long as you have a Greek identity card or passport.
I work with different mediums and within different artistic fields. Can I apply for more than one artistic field?
You have to submit your application for only one of the following fields: Visual arts, Moving image, Dance or Curating.
In case I receive funds from another grant, award, scholarship or fellowship program, am I eligible to apply for the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Artist Fellowship Program?
Yes, you are eligible to apply for the Program, as long as total annual declared income did not exceed the amount of 12.000€ for 2020.
What is the supporting document I need to submit to prove that my total annual declared income for the tax year 2020 did not exceed the amount of 12.000 euros?
You will need to upload the Greek tax return document for the 2020 tax year. If you have been professionally active abroad, you will also need to submit the foreign tax return for the 2020 tax year. If the tax year abroad is calculated differently, you will need to provide all the statements that add up your declared income for the 2020 tax year.
I have zero income declared in Greece but I have income from my work abroad. Is it necessary to upload the tax return of the country where I file my taxes?
It is necessary to submit both the greek and the foreign tax return files.
I am registered as a family dependent member and I do not file an individual tax return. What is the supporting document that I must submit in order to show that my total declared annual income does not exceed the amount of 12.000 euros?
You must submit the income tax return (E1) and the tax return for the tax year 2020 of the family member under whom you are registered as dependent.
I am a student in the arts, can I apply to the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Artist Fellowship Program?
If you are enrolled at the first cycle of your studies in an artistic field related to the ones offered, you can not apply for the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Artist Fellowship Program. Relevant fields are considered, indicatively and not restrictively, the schools of fine and visual arts, applied arts and architecture, performing arts, film, art history, theory of art, etc.
I don't have a background in the arts. Can I apply for the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Artist Fellowship Program?
If you haven’t studied the arts but you do have a wide and recognized body of artistic work, you can apply for the Program. Please note that your application will be evaluated according to the rest of the prerequisites and in addition to all the elements supporting your candidacy.
How can I prove my artistic skills and experience?
You may refer to your participation in exhibitions, festivals, competitions, publications, artist residency programs and any other achievements you have accomplished as an artist.
I am enrolled in a master’s program. Can I apply for the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Artist Fellowship Program?
Yes, you can apply.
I am enrolled in a PhD program. Can I apply for the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Artist Fellowship Program?
Yes, you can apply.
What do you mean by the term artist statement?
It is a personal statement that describes your practice, aspirations and the areas of focus in your work.
Can I submit my website instead of a portfolio?
Your website does not replace the work sample requested in the portfolio. You can submit the link to your website on the designated field of the application.
Can I include incomplete works as part of my portfolio?
Of course, if you think it adds to your application.
Can I submit the supporting documentation by post?
All material supporting your application can only be submitted online via the application form.
Can I submit my application after the deadline?
Applications will be accepted only before the deadline: May 31, 2022 (23:59 EET).

I am having a technical problem and I can not proceed with the submission of my application. How can I contact you for an immediate solution to the problem?
You can reach ARTWORKS at +30 210 3647065 from Monday to Friday between working hours (10:00 – 17:00). To avoid such problems and give us the opportunity to resolve them in a timely manner if they arise, please do not schedule the submission of your application for the very last day of the open call.
I have made a mistake in the application I submitted. Can I reapply or send additional material via email?
No changes or corrections will be accepted after your application is submitted. Please make sure to to submit correctly all the required documents, especially the following:
- both sides of your Greek identity card in one file
- Greek tax return document for the tax year 2020
- foreign tax return document for the tax year 2020
About participation
When will I be notified if I get awarded the Stavros Niarchos Fellowship Artist Fellowship Program?
The results will be announced on the official website of ARTWORKS around the end of September 2022.
I submitted my application but I have not received a confirmation email. What should I do in this case?
Please make sure you have entered a valid email address and also check your spam. If you still haven’t received a confirmation email, allow 24 hours from submission before contacting us at [email protected]. Make sure to contact us within the deadline.
Can I receive feedback for my application?
When the application process is completed and the results are announced, there is no provision for further information about the application or for re-evaluation.
What should I do if I get accepted to Stavros Niarchos Foundation Artist Fellowship Program?
Following the announcement of the awardees, you will be asked to sign an official agreement with ARTWORKS, setting the terms and conditions of the award. Your participation at the Program will require attending workshops, seminars, artists talks and other skill-sharing events.
Should I get accepted to the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Artist Fellowship Program, will I be required to attend all the events that ARTWORKS will organize within the eight-month period of the Program?
Attendance is not mandatory. However, we strongly encourage you to participate.
How often will the seminars and workshops take place and when will you announce the schedule?
The seminars and workshops will be held in Athens between October 2022 and May 2023. The exact dates will be announced shortly after the Program kicks-off.
Is my presence required daily at ARTWORKS?
No, the Program does not require your daily presence.
Do you cover travel expenses for those who don’t live in Athens and wish to attend the professional development workshops?
ARTWORKS doesn’t provide any additional funds apart from the monetary prize.
Am I obliged to produce and/or complete a project during my participation in the Program?
There is no such obligation. However, you will be required to report twice during the eight-month period of the Program about your artistic/curatorial activities and you are encouraged to present your work to your peers.
