ARTWORKS has established an on-going partnership with the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC) through the implementation of creative projects that bring contemporary art closer to the public.
“Mythologies | New Terrains” was an exhibition presented in 2022 at the SNFCC Dome, featuring 13 contemporary artworks that reimagined Greek mythology through a contemporary lens. The show brought together sculptures, installations, and an augmented reality application, offering a multifaceted exploration of how myths shape cultural narratives. Artists including Theodoros Giannakis, Petros Moris, Panos Profitis, and Valinia Svoronou examined the mechanisms of belief formation and the persistence of myth in contemporary thought. The spatial design, conceived by architect and visual artist Eleni Papanastasiou, introduced a commissioned work that functioned simultaneously as display and seating, encouraging visitors to move intuitively through the space, pause, and engage with the artworks in a contemplative and immersive manner.
In partnership with AEA Consulting, ARTWORKS curated a “walkshop,” activating the SNFCC park through three site-specific performances by SNF ARTWORKS Fellows: Iria Vrettou, Konstantinos Papanikolaou, and Chara Stergiou. Vrettou’s Liquid Pleasures explored the fluidity of identity and queer ecologies, while Papanikolaou’s WHODUNIT unfolded as a dance investigation into “choreographic crimes.” Stergiou transformed the convening into a “conference of birds” with a sound performance weaving myth, memory, and live recording. This initiative underscored ARTWORKS’ commitment to integrating contemporary artistic practices into dynamic public spaces, highlighting the role of performance art in shaping cultural districts and fostering new forms of audience engagement.
