ARTIST’S TALK: IRIS TOULIATOU “CONDITION, CONTINGENCIES, CONTRADICTIONS”

ARTWORKS invites you on Wednesday, 18 February 2026, at 18:30, to a public lecture by visual artist Iris Touliatou, titled condition, contingencies, contradictions, which will take place at MAMMOT (Sina 52, Athens).

Iris Touliatou explores the relationships between social structures and people’s practices and raises questions on the conditions of artistic production and the institutional frames within which it exists. Often responsive to the place and context of their exhibition, her works examine infrastructures, affect, and entanglements between artwork, institution, and their social and material dynamics.

Following her recent exhibition Shifts at Kunstverein München, supported by the 2025 ARTWORKS Grants, Touliatou will address the conditions, contingencies, and contradictions at stake through recent exhibition case studies: projects operating at institutional thresholds, experiments in self-instituting, and moments of institutional absorption or failure. The presentation considers what artistic practice depends on, what it claims autonomy from, and how these relations shift under present conditions.

Iris Touliatou’s lecture is part of the ARTWORKS Grants 2025 program, designed to provide financial support to artists and curators for the development of artistic proposals that promote contemporary cultural production. The program aims to foster creativity, and showcase contemporary Greek art both nationally and internationally. The hosting of Iris’ talk at MAMMOT takes place within the framework of ARTWORKS’ collaboration with other cultural institutions. MAMMOT was founded in 2025 by Myrto Grapsa (ARTWORKS Dance Fellow 2022) as an open space dedicated to contemporary art, hosting exhibitions, performances, and artistic projects that move between the visual and performing arts.
