ARTWORKS invites you on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at 18:00 to the Library Auditorium of the Athens School of Fine Arts (A.S.F.A.) for the presentation of curator Clarisa Appendino’s practice, titled “Fragmenting Obsolescence.” Following the presentation, the discussion with the audience will be moderated by curator Eva Vaslamatzi.
The curator and educator Clarisa Appendino is in Athens for the month of October as part of the curatorial exchange program organized by ARTWORKS in collaboration with BIENALSUR (Argentina) and FRAC Corsica (France). During her stay, Clarisa is participating in an intensive program of studio visits and meetings with representatives of the local art scene, aimed at conducting field research and building connections within the artistic community. The residency program will conclude with her public talk at the Library Auditorium of the Athens School of Fine Arts (A.S.F.A.).
More specifically, in her talk “Fragmenting Obsolescence”, Clarisa will present an overview of her ongoing research, which involves the relationship between contemporary gleaning and collecting practices and the contemplation of materials and objects as a way to fragment imposed obsolescence. As a curatorial project, these topics will be featured in various exhibitions produced within the framework of BIENALSUR 2025.
Clarisa Appendino’s talk is part of the ARTWORKS Connects program, which aims to strengthen the international outreach of the Greek art scene through curatorial residency and exchange initiatives.
The curatorial exchange program is co-funded by BIENALSUR, FRAC Corsica, and ARTWORKS. ARTWORKS implements the program with the support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF).
Clarisa Appendino’s talk is hosted at the Athens School of Fine Arts (A.S.F.A.) as part of ARTWORKS Partners program, which aims, through collaborations, to create opportunities for professionals in the field of contemporary art and to strengthen the role of contemporary artistic practice within cultural life. The collaboration between ARTWORKS and A.S.F.A. involves the Master of Fine Arts program of the School, as well as the PhD Program (Third Cycle of Studies) of the Department of Fine Arts (D.F.A.) This partnership is part of a broader strategic and long-term effort toward inter-institutional collaboration, aiming to reinforce the connection between artistic research and professional practice in the contemporary cultural sector, and to promote initiatives of academic, research, and artistic exchange.
