ARTWORKS is thrilled to announce an upcoming collaboration with Stone Farm, a new, ecologically-focused artist residency program on the island of Aegina.

Stone Farm was co-designed and purpose-built by the artist Eleni Mylonas as her home and working studio. Beginning from “Ground Station Mir” (pictured above), Mylonas slowly built Stone Farm over the course of several years. During this time, Mylonas slowly imprinted new forms on the land and her own practice became indelibly marked by the exchange: shaped by the island’s limestone, pistachio and olive trees, as well as the dramatic qualities of sun and moonlight that shift and transform across the passage of seasons.

To this day, Mylonas stewards the land’s natural beauty and agricultural heritage while ensuring that the building pays respect to Aegina’s thousands of years of inhabited history. Looking forward, Mylonas has chosen to share this inspiring place with others—beginning from the earth itself and extending through the diverse forms of life it has long supported. By opening Stone Farm to the world, this history of life-giving creativity will continue into the future.

Aegina has long been a haven for creative spirits. Along the same coastal road as Stone Farm lie the former residences of such artists as Nikos Kazantakis, Christos Kapralos, Yannis Moralis, and Nikos Nikolaou. Elsewhere on the island, ancient ceramic practices mix with contemporary efforts to revitalize the artistic and ecological richness of the island. Stone Farm will become a local and international center for supporting environmentally-grounded artistic practices.

Building on ARTWORKS’ twin commitment to creating opportunities for Greek artists and connecting the international arts community to Greece, ARTWORKS will be partnering with Stone Farm to design and launch the residency’s pilot programming in 2027. This program will be curated by ARTWORKS and led in the pilot phase by its longtime collaborator, Alexander Strecker, an art historian and editor. On the occasion of the ARTWORKS x Stone Farm partnership, Strecker has spent the past year visiting ecologically-focused artist residencies in Canada, the Czech Republic, France, Greece, and the United States, including one month in Corsica as part of the Curatorial Exchange program. The goal of this partnership is to bring together Mylonas’ creative mind and ARTWORKS’ extensive experience to establish Stone Farm as a year-round hub for both Greek and international residents, visitors, workshops, and public events.
