Since 2018 we have successfully awarded 390 fellowships that total 3.000.000 euros, through 5 cycles of the SNF Artist Fellowship Program, supported exclusively by our founding donor, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF). This unprecedented initiative has played a key role in giving prominence to Greek arts professionals between the ages 25-40, working in the visual arts, moving image, dance and curating. In a sector where professional stability is scarce and funding opportunities are limited, the program has served as an essential platform for growth. By alleviating financial pressures, it has enabled the fellows to engage in research, experimentation, and production while advancing their professional development.

We supported individual artists

We enhanced artistic production in Greece on a significant scale, through a pioneer approach: financial support given directly to artists and with no pre-determined artwork to be produced with the fellowship. Fellows were able to dedicate themselves to research and development of artworks with no restrictions.

We supported professional development with opportunities for collaboration and interaction, mentoring from senior artists and a number of educational and visibility opportunities.

We boosted artists’ confidence through our human-centric approach that includes respect for the artist as an individual, open and continuous communication, immediate and long-term relationships based on trust, the creation of a safe environment and the adoption of high professional practices.

We created a sense of community

We improved collaborations by introducing to each other professionals who would not have the opportunity to meet otherwise.

We promoted interaction between four different artistic disciplines, increasing the fellows’ extraversion. We cultivated a sense of community through increased socialization and common activities.

We improved the sector

We established good practices and transparent procedures, introducing a model that has already been adopted elsewhere. We improved dialogue and developed trust with official entities.

We improved the position of artists in their professional field through their professional development and the increased visibility of their work.

The program was conceived by ARTWORKS initial co-founders, Marily Konstantinopoulou and Dimitra Nikolou, while implemented with the assistance of the core team members as well as the contribution of distinguished art professionals who served as selection committee members and mentors.
